The Interview Process

Most employers have a two stage interview process.  However, there is no set rule and the more strategic the role the more likely it is that there will be a number of interviews. Your pfj consultant will be able to tell you what you should expect for each individual role.

Some employers use psychometric tests, and there may also be tests that are specific to your role, for example maths or Excel tests. In the later rounds of interviews, it's likely you'll be asked to give a short presentation. Follow our tips below to make sure you perform your best.

• A good interviewer will try and put you at ease by asking some soft questions about your journey etc. They want to relax you so they can find out more about you. Be open and friendly.

• Once seated, get comfortable. If it's hot ask if you can take your jacket off.

• Listen carefully to the questions and wait for the interviewer to finish; don't interrupt. If you haven't understood the question properly, ask the interviewer for further clarification. Answer succinctly and ensure answer the question directly without rambling.

• Always be positive and enthusiastic. Don't speak negatively about past employers or people from work.

• Be confident at the interview, as this will give the interviewer a good overall impression.

• Make eye contact with your interviewer - it helps you pay attention to exactly what's been said and asked, and it also shows confidence.

• Try and be open and show them your personality.

• Don't come away from the interview unsure of anything to do with the position, e.g. what the main responsibilities and duties are; who you'd be reporting to; where the position fits into the department/company etc. It's perfectly okay to ask these kinds of questions and will make you look keen and serious about the position.

• After the interview call your pfj consultant with your feedback.
