Murdoch to remain 'active' at News International

1 July 2009 17:08

James Murdoch has insisted that he will not fade into the background at News International when Rebekah Wade takes over as chief executive.

That is according to a report by the Guardian which claims that Ms Wade will not be chairing management talks at the highest level in the company when she begins her role this September.

In an internal memo that is said to have been seen by MediaGuardian.co.uk Mr Murdoch said that he will be an "active executive chairman who will not be stepping away".

He said: "I'll continue to chair our title meetings and, of course, will keep my base in Wapping as I work hand in hand with Rebekah and the exceptional team here to grow the business for the future."

Wade who was previously the editor of the Sun newspaper will begin her new position on September 1st as News International chief executive.

The media group currently publish the Sun, Times, Sunday Times, News of the World and thelondonpaper.
