New marketing chief for first direct

Online bank first direct has hired a new marketing chief to oversee its promotional activities.

Paul Say will become the new head of marketing, taking over from the previous post-holder Mark Mullen.

Mr Mullen left earlier this year to pursue a top media sales job with HSBC, where he will be the bank's regional head of marketing for the Middle East.

Prior to Mr Say's appointment, the position had been filled temporarily by Lisa Wood, who also acted as head of brand.

She will now move to become head of marketing and communications for HSBC's premium expatriate bank business in Jersey.

Commenting on his new media job, Mr Say said: "There are some fantastic developments going on in the business at the moment including their ground breaking strides into social media."

The marketing professional has worked for HSBC, which owns first direct, for ten years in various roles.

Earlier this year, first direct launched its first social media campaign in the hope of stimulating conversation and benefitting from word of mouth advertising.
