Observer TV campaign may boost job opportunities

2 February 2010 12:47

The Observer is launching a new television advertising campaign aimed at boosting circulation following its re-launch later this month.

According to Marketing magazine, a revamped version of the newspaper will go on sale on February 21st and will be backed by new TV ads.

Publisher Guardian News and Media has given the publication a fresh makeover after circulation dropped by 16.5 per cent in 2009.

Four new sections will be featured in the new look Observer. These will be news, sport, reviews and the Observer magazine.

If the TV ad campaign is successful and the newspaper does see an increase in readership, this could open up some interesting opportunities for media job seekers.

The Observer is not the only publication contending with a drop in circulation. Free online access to news is causing problems for other publications, who are examining new ways of boosting revenue.

Charging readers to view news articles on the internet is one method being used, with the likes of the Guardian and Trinity Mirrors specialist news websites 3am.co.uk and Mirrorfootball.co.uk offering mobile applications for a small fee.
