London Weekly launch 'on track'

The publishers of the new London Weekly freesheet have confirmed that they are on track to meet the planned launch date of February 5th.

According to Brand Republic, around 250,000 copies of the newspaper will be handed out in the capital on Fridays and Saturdays.

The plans for the publication were first announced by Global Publishing Group in November and a London Weekly website was launched last month.

Paul Morris, head of advertising at the newspaper, said a number of advertisers are on board for the first issue.

He also claimed the venture would provide new media job opportunities and "fill the void" left in the London freesheet market following the closure of thelondonpaper and the London Lite.

At present, the London Evening Standard is dominating the freesheet market in the capital after dropping its 50p cover price in October last year.

Earlier this month, Media Week reported that the newspaper was examining plans to boost its distribution.
