Vodafone contract could create media agency jobs

New media agency jobs could be created at any of several leading advertising agencies following reports that Vodafone is conducting a review of its UK account.

According to news provider Campaign, the UK-based mobile telecoms company's recently appointed brand director, Danielle Crook, has held discussions with several media agencies and is currently considering Vodafone's options.

Its UK ad account, worth an estimated £46 million, is currently held by Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), and its reported decision to approach other agencies will come as a blow after Vodafone moved its global strategy account away from the company last year.

Campaign writes that Vodafone has seen a dip in its global sales performance in recent months, with revenues falling by three per cent during the half-year to September 2009.

"In the UK, the mobile phone operator faces increasing competition from the market leader O2 and the impending merger between Orange and T-Mobile," it wrote.

BBH is a British advertising agency part-owned by the Publicis media group. It has worked on campaigns for global clients including Audi, Levi Straus, British Airways, Johnnie Walker, Axe/Lynx and Omo/Persil.
