DMGT snubbed by News International

14 November 2008 15:46

The Daily Mail & General Trust (DMGT) has been snubbed by News International after the company approached it to arrange a truce regarding the London freesheet war, it has been reported.

DGMT, the publisher of London Lite, approached News International, publisher of the London Paper, in order to strike a deal which could save both companies money in their costly free newspaper war, the mediaguardian.co.uk has revealed.

Specific details of what the deal consisted of are not known, but it is thought that News International has refused to work with DMGT.

Steve Auckland, the managing director of Associated Newspapers' free newspaper department - a subsidiary of DMGT - said that he believed this would not be the end of the matter.

"I believe we've had discussions with News International in the past, which is no surprise really, as they struggled from day one to make a success of the London Paper," he told the website.

DMGT were reported this week to be planning a cull of 300 jobs from its London papers.
