Football Punk to change football journalism

12 August 2008 17:14

The world of sports journalism has a new face in the crowd, named Football Punk, a magazine dedicated to the people who make football tick, it has been revealed.

Football Punk is a magazine from the creator of the successful Golf Punk title, and editor Ian Cruise hopes his editor-at-large, former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland defender Phil Babb, will be the magazine's key asset.

"There's an awful lot of football in the media, but much of it's fairly straight stuff from press conferences," said Cruise about the new title, which will come free with the next four issues of Golf Punk at first.

"What I've found is that, if you get footballers on to subjects other than who they're playing next, they're happy to talk about them," he added.

Explaining that Football Punk is to become the 'thinking man's football magazine', Cruise argued that there is a great deal of interest in the behind the scenes aspect of football, such as the lives of the players and the homes they live in - not dissimilar to features found in OK!

"Phil [Babb] went to have tea with Harry Redknapp and caught him very relaxed. It produced a lively, jocular piece. There's a lot of stuff written about footballers as footballers, but this will be about footballers as people," Cruise remarked.
