Search giant Google has announced a deal to buy mobile display advertising firm AdMob for $750 million (£450 million) in stock.
The company said the move will enable it to boost its mobile advertising expertise and increase choice for online marketers and publishers.
Both firms have given their approval to the deal, which will go ahead subject to certain closing conditions.
The acquisition could be good news for those seeking media jobs in the digital sector, as it may lead to the creation of new posts.
Vic Gundotra, vice president of engineering at Google, said the search engine is committed to attracting the world's top engineering talent.
"AdMob's proven track record in innovating at speed will help maintain that culture, which is why we are so excited to be working with them," he added.
Google released its third quarter results last month, announcing a seven per cent year-on-year increase in revenues.
