The recent announcement that Britain is officially experiencing a recession has been accompanied by reports that the downturn will not stop at simply manufacturing or other blue collar jobs.
The exhibition industry is one area which is likely to face particular difficulty as exhibitors pull out of shows which regularly run annually.
So far this month two major car shows organised for springtime this year have been cancelled in the UK, adding to the strain for exhibition managers.
Speaking about the reasons for cancelling the Sexy Green Car Show, a spokesperson for the organisers said: "Launching in 2010 gives car manufacturers, many of whom are yet to fully roll-out their low-emission range of vehicles, the opportunity to showcase their environmentally-focused model line up at a time when the UK car buyers are much more likely to buy new cars."
As a result of the slowdown, exhibition managers may be tempted to cut recruitment but there are also significant benefits to the decision to keep recruitment levels up as morale, as well as the long-term health of a company can be negatively affected by job cuts.
