Twitter hits 50 million tweets a day

Twitter is proving that social media and blogging is becoming an increasingly popular way for businesses and individuals to communicate.
The website has just announced that 50 million tweets per day are being posted by its users - a sharp jump in the last year.
Indeed, at the beginning of 2009, around 2.5 million 140-character tweets were being published each day.
The news may be welcomed by those seeking digital media jobs in the social networking sphere, as it means that opportunities could be plentiful in the months ahead.
Earlier this month, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that the number of people using his social network had reached 400 million.
Data from Hitwise also revealed that the website was sending more traffic to news and media websites than Google News.
Meanwhile, Twitter has been expanding its uses by launching a jobs tracking application called JobDeck, which allows users to read the latest recruitment news and keep up to date with job postings.
