Online advertising 'continuing to grow'

16 November 2009 11:16

Companies continue to realise the power of online advertising and are boosting their spending on the medium, it has been claimed.

According to research from the European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA), 83 per cent of marketers increased their online ad spending this year.

Looking ahead, some 94 per cent are planning to allocate more of their marketing budgets to internet advertising in 2010.

Overall, online ad spend is expected to rise by 7.6 per cent next year, followed by an increase of 15 per cent in 2011.

These forecasts are likely to encourage those seeking media jobs in digital marketing, as they suggest that online advertising is the sector to be involved in.

Alison Fennah, executive director of the EIAA, said: "Online advertising is further consolidating its position as the medium of choice for marketers across Europe."

According to the research, mobile advertising is the "one to watch" in 2010, with 97 per cent of firms anticipating growth in spending in this area over the next two years.

Separate figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau show that UK internet ad spend grew by 4.6 per cent in the first half of 2009.
