BBC announces tie-in with ITV

12 December 2008 18:42

The BBC has made an announcement regarding a significant shift in its recruitment outlook for local news journalists as it revealed that it has plans to tie in with ITV staff.

The shock announcement was revealed in a mediaguardian.co.uk report after David Holdsworth, the controller of BBC English Regions, emailed staff with the news that ITV and BBC local news journalists would work together.

Controversial to many, the move has come as a means of "[putting] regional news at the heart of the overall BBC offer for a very long time to come and [making] our own broadcasting centres more important in local communities", Mr Holdsworth said.

The proposals include, but are not restricted to, the BBC sharing offices and satellite broadcast trucks with other broadcasters, although studio space is not likely to be shared and the BBC will continue to set its own agenda, it has been confirmed.

Recruitment in the media will likely see several such innovative changes over the coming year as the industry is forced to adapt in order to remain competitive during the predicted recession in 2009.

Smart recruitment could be one of the most effective means of maintaining a competitive edge.
