Guardian.co.uk comes close to 36m visitors in November

23 December 2009 16:06

The Guardian has strengthened its position as the most-visited newspaper website in the UK, welcoming almost 36 million web users last month.

ABCe data shows that the number of people reading news on Guardian.co.uk rose by 13 per cent in November.

Globally, there were 35.8 million unique visits to the online portal, which features content from the Observer and the Guardian.

This is the highest monthly number for any UK newspaper website and bears the previous 33 million record, which was set by the same publication in September.

The Daily Mail also experienced an increase in web traffic, as did the Telegraph.

People seeking digital media jobs may welcome the figures, as they highlight once again the growing importance of the internet in the delivery of news.

As a result, publishers are seeking new ways to generate revenue from the web, which could open up some interesting media job opportunities.

For example, both Trinity Mirror and Guardian News and Media have launched applications for the iPhone recently, charging users a monthly fee to access mobile web content.
