Will Lewis promoted to top digital media job at Telegraph

26 November 2009 14:50

Telegraph Media Group (TMG) editor-in-chief Will Lewis is to lead a new digital media division at the company, it has been announced.

Mr Lewis will spearhead the "entrepreneurial unit" that will consist of 50 members of staff and be based in Euston, although he is to remain editor-in-chief of the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph.co.uk.

The move is part of an increasing shift in focus by TMG towards the online sphere and the creation of the division could see the formation of several new digital media jobs.

Murdoch MacLennan, chief executive of the company, said: "Using the Telegraph's powerful brand and reputation, Will has been charged with building a digital unit designed to capitalise on cutting edge ideas, driving new revenue streams by better serving our customers."

Meanwhile, Mr Lewis's current deputy editor Tony Gallagher has been promoted to the role of editor of the Daily Telegraph.

In October, it was revealed the Telegraph is looking to add a new member to its editorial team with the remit of overseeing all the newspaper's 2012 Olympics coverage.
