Newspaper websites attract 95 million hits in June

28 July 2008 16:46

The websites of six of the largest national newspapers attracted a massive 95 million hits for the month of June, according to recent research.

Following relaunches and revamps of many of the major websites over the past six months, the number of readers looking at newspaper websites is likely to suggest investment has paid off.

The figures are published by the Newspaper Marketing Agency, which collected data from its 16 members.

Although most newspaper groups are members, notable exceptions include the Financial Times and the Express Newspapers group.

It is interesting to see that the make up of such sites however, is predominantly global readers, with only 35.5 million of the 94.8 million readers being from the UK.

Recruitment for such websites may indeed increase in the near future as the value for such tools increases with more readers.

Despite a current marketing slump, the high number of readers will no doubt lend itself to the newspapers call for premium advertising revenue in the near future.

Collectively, the websites attracted 715 million minutes of readers' attention, making them look particularly effective to marketers, and so cementing their success in the future.
