Broadcaster BSkyB has appointed a new managing director for its customer group, who will take up the role next month.
Andrea Zappia will succeed Brian Sullivan, who is to become the deputy chief executive of Sky Deutschland, on February 1st.
Mr Zappa will be responsible for leading the sales, marketing and customer operations teams at Sky.
He will be tasked with acquiring new customers and retaining existing ones across BSkyB's products, including satellite television services and broadband internet.
The new recruit has held a number of top media jobs during his career, including vice president of sports channels at Sky Italia.
Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of BSkyB, said he was "delighted" to announce Mr Zappa's appointment.
"Andrea will bring a wealth of experience and add further strength to the leadership team at BSkyB," he remarked.
As of September 30th 2009, BSkyB had a total of 9.5 million customers, including 5.9 million with Sky+ services and 2.3 million with broadband.
