Paul Farrer Paul Farrer was never much of an academic and it was in 1986 when he was 23 when he started to look for a career. Luckily he found recruitment, which has proven to be a lot of fun and a profession he still enjoys today. “In my view it is the most challenging complex three dimensional 'sales' role that you can do. From the outside it looks easy but when your 'products' are people you soon discover that you are involved in a sector where logic can yield to emotion and 'gut feel' can triumph over skills and competencies. Nothing is guaranteed. I am lucky because I find people and organisations equally interesting”. Paul’s role at pfj is to create and develop a clear vision that we can all aspire towards. His role is high in touch and visibility so he spends a lot of time with clients, candidates and pfj’s own people. Outside of work he is married with 3 children, love sports and major events and is passionate about promoting community based conservations in Africa. |

My initial career followed a fairly formal route, having gained a Business Studies degree at Bradford Business School I worked for 2 FTSE 250 companies over 15 years gaining qualification as a Chartered Secretary along the way. I had a fairly good grounding in different sectors, initially within a sales & marketing business and then within a large conglomorate with 5,000 employees. Having left the formal world to set up my own Management Consultancy business, one of my first clients was Paul Farrer at Phee Farrer Jones. Our complementary skills have worked in harmony for the past 10 years and we have built a business to be proud of. I see my key role now to be to maximise the profitability of the business by releasing the full potential of all who work at PFJ. Outside of work I have a great wife, 3 children and my interests are playing golf and watching football.

Even when I was 3 at nursery I used to be known as "Chatterbox" and some would argue that the nickname would still hold true today! I have always been fascinated by people and some may call it nosey others may call it inqusitive but my natural instinct is to always delve into people and find things out - I find that this has helped no end in recruitment and has assisted me in forging great relationships with clients, candidates and for me my most essential commodity the employees of pfj. As HR and Marketing Director of pfj my role is all about helping through the management team all employees in the business reaching their personal development goals and full potential. I came to pfj from a career in media sales which I enjoyed but didn't have the sophistication and dynamism that I really wanted and I have now been here for 11 years and haven't looked back since. No 2 days are the same and that adds to the frisson. The other element to my role is to ensure that pfj and the Graduate Recruitment Company are delivering the right brand message and that we are attracting enough candidates to our business to fill the ever changing roles we have in the business. Outside of work I am married with 2 very young children who have already got very used to mummy's insistent questioning techniques!
| Katy Green At the ripe age of 21 Katy took herself off to London to find a career in Media sales. After 6 years across a number of media markets (regional press, exhibitions and event sponsorship) Katy turned her hand to recruitment and joined PFJ in Sept 2000 where she launched the Conference and Exhibitions team. Katy's knowledge of the media industry and sectors proved invaluable to her rapid success as both a billing consultant and manager. Over the last 7 years Katy has risen through the ranks and taken responsibility for the additional permanent markets; Media Sales, Digital, Business Information, Editorial and launched into the Media Agencies sector in 2004. Katy now heads up the PFJ Media Division for permanent recruitment. | |
| Clare Patefield I graduated back in the dim and distant days from Durham with a degree in Physics. I was lucky enough to have gained experience at a high street recruitment agency before embarking on my first “proper” job in field sales for a well-known global cereal manufacturer. I quickly realized that, for me, selling people was far more fulfilling than selling cornflakes and so I joined pfj as a trainee consultant in 1999. It sounds clichéd but I get a real buzz out of recruitment. No two candidates, clients or scenarios are ever the same so even now there are situations that still present a challenge every day of the week. I have been able to enjoy a variety of roles with in pfj and have worked across several different teams and sectors. The diversity of my job is something I particularly enjoy. Put simply, my role at pfj is to run The Graduate Recruitment Company, our Recruitment to Recruitment team and our Intellectual Property team in London - which involves everything from recruiting and developing our own people through to meeting clients and winning new business. When not at work (or on a netball court for the pfj panthers) I like to enjoy the fruits of my labour, which more often than not will mean sharing my free time with my partner, family and friends over a glass of fine wine. | |
